Just wrapped up the third and final worship service today. I had the privilege of teaching in our series “In God We Trust.”
Look at my paycheck; I am not rich. At least not if you consider “rich” a certain amount of money. But what is that magic number one must reach in order to be “rich”?
I like what Andy Stanley said about “rich”: It’s a moving target. Gallop asked people with different incomes what they needed to earn in order to feel rich. The end result was that everyone said a number that was more than they currently had!
Did you know that if you make $37K/year you are in the top 4% of the income-earners in the world? That means 96% of the world is poorer than you! You are filthy rich to someone else.
The principle I shared today was this:
RICH is not about your income. RICH is about how you live.
In 1Timothy 6:17-19, Paul outlines how to Live Richly:
- Don’t Be Arrogant
- Trust God, Not Money
- Be rich in good deeds
- Be generous and willing to share
Proverbs 18:11 – The wealthy see their riches as a fortified city; they imagine it an unscalable wall.
Proverbs 18:10 – The name of the Lord is a strong tower; the righteous to it and are safe.
Through this passage, God has reminded me that HE is my strong tower, my provider and my hope. He has taught me I can stop trying to get rich and begin living like I am rich.
