Today I was pondering a couple of things Jesus Christ said to his closest friends:
“I tell you the truth: it is for your good that I go away.” -John 16:7
“…when he, the Spirit of Truth, comes, he will guide you into all truth“. -John 16:13
Jesus was often quoted saying, “I tell you the truth…” I appreciate that. Jesus speaks truth.
I want to live in truth. I want to learn truth; hear and believe truth; speak truth; tell the truth; seek truth; embrace truth; not be afraid of truth.
Some of the ways I don’t live in truth:
- when I try to fake something
- when I conceal something that is true but I don’t want people to know
- when I’m trying to be someone I’m not.
- when I believe that other people have the power to define me
There is something very freeing about telling the truth.
Do you ever feel like you’re not telling the truth? I don’t mean like telling people you were the captain of the football team even though you weren’t. I mean, do you ever feel like there are things that are true about you that you wish you could tell someone? Things like: I’m insecure but I work hard to conceal it. Maybe if we all were more comfortable with the truth we could find healing in those areas of our lives.
